Sign near gate should be restored
From AAS Observatory Wiki
Status: Resolved
There is a nice wooden sign frame near the locking gate on the road leading to the observatory. This sign could help direct people in the proper direction, but it currently has nothing posted. At least one guest has mentioned to me that they were not sure which road to take.
[update stleary Aug 30, 2008] Tom Campbell has replaced the weather stripping, cleaned the window and installed new signage. He reports:
- "The weather stripping was not completely water tight and the information I posted a couple of weeks ago is beginning to get that runny kind of look. I didn't spend a lot of time on the signs, so losing them over the next few weeks is no big deal. My vision was to provide information about the dates that the observatory is open and at what time the gate opens. Based on what I observed, anything that is posted to the bulletin board will have to be laminated! An alternative would be to construct a roof/shield that would prevent water from flowing into the top during rain events. I invite the more artistic of you to provide a less utilitarian sign, I'll help you get it there."
I will keep this item open until Tom reports the work as completed, and pending whether anyone volunteers to provide laminated signs
Here is an image of the new sign:Update 9/22/08:
- Since no one volunteered to provide laminated signs, I am resolving this issue. The new signs look good; they can be replaced if weathering causes them to become hard to read. Note to self - Change gate open time to sunset.
